pit-board®by Pit-To-Table

One panel.Three tones.

Each panel has its own character, created by the natural variation of the olive pits within it. Strong and moisture-resistant, Pit-Board® can be used as a solid material without a plywood or MDF substrate, giving designers greater freedom to reveal the material itself.

Natural

The pit as it comes off the sieve.

Warm amber with a fleck of darker husk. Natural is the tone that shows the material most honestly, and the one most specifiers start with.

Charcoal

Near-black, with gold at every edge.

Charcoal reads as a solid dark surface from a distance and reveals the pit up close. Exposed edges catch the light like terrazzo.

Oat milk, quiet enough for any room.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is it food safe?

Yes. The bio-binder is food-safe certified, and Pit-Board® is finished with Osmo Food Safe TopOil.

How easily does it scratch, and can it be repaired?

Pit-Board® offers strong resistance to general wear and tear and scratching, particularly in the lighter colourways. In the event of a deeper scratch, the surface can be lightly sanded and re-oiled to restore its appearance.

What happens at the end of its life? Can it be recycled into new sheets?

This version of Pit-Board® can be mechanically recycled and reintroduced into the production of new sheets. We are already developing our next-generation material, which is designed to be biodegradable and is currently under R&D.

Does it have a fire rating for surface spread of flame?

Fire testing is currently underway. In the meantime, where a fire rating is required, we recommend that Pit-Board® is treated with an appropriate fire-retardant treatment.

What is the lead time and pricing?

Our current production lead time is approximately 6–8 weeks, plus shipping. For a standard 1.4 × 1 m panel: Natural €430 per panel; light and dark tones €460 per panel.

How are the edges treated?

Unlike MDF or plywood, Pit-Board® is solid throughout, so no edge banding is required. Simply sand the edge smooth and finish it with oil if desired.

Can Pit-Board® be cut into any shape?

Yes. It can be CNC machined, routed, drilled and cut into virtually any shape, making it suitable for bespoke furniture, interiors and architectural applications.

How is it machined?

Pit-Board® is machined using standard woodworking equipment. Sharp carbide tooling is recommended for the best finish.

Does it smell like olives?

No. The olive pits are thoroughly processed during manufacturing, so the finished material has no noticeable olive smell.

What is Pit-Board® made from?

Pit-Board® is a bio-composite board made from at least 60% discarded olive pits and 40% or less bio-resin derived from cashew nut shells.

Does it need sealing?

For most furniture and interior applications, we recommend finishing with a food-safe oil to protect the surface while maintaining its natural appearance.

Can it be used for worktops?

Yes. It is suitable for kitchen islands, countertops, café tables and other interior surfaces when properly finished and maintained.

Is it heat resistant?

Like timber and other natural surface materials, hot pans or cookware should not be placed directly on the surface. We recommend using trivets.
